Find out when it will be at its peak
The first full moon of the year, also known as the Wolf Moon, will be in peak view on Monday. The moon will reach peak illumination at 5:27 p.m. ET on Monday and will appear full for three days. The Old Farmer's Almanac provides moonrise times for different ZIP codes in the United States. The Wolf Moon is named for the howling wolves heard outside villages during winter. No special tools are needed to view the moon, but binoculars or a telescope can provide a closer look.
