Spotify Wins Case Over ‘Billions’ Of Eminem Streams

Spotify Wins Case Over ‘Billions’ Of Eminem Streams Spotify has emerged victorious in a lawsuit accusing it of streaming Eminem's music without proper licensing. Spotify "acted deceptively" by claiming to have licenses for 243 Eminem songs, according to Eight Mile Style's 2019 lawsuit. The court absolved Spotify of liability, blaming Kobalt Music Group for mismanaging Eminem's royalties. It also accused the firm of making "random payments" for hits played hundreds of millions of times, stating the money only represented "a fraction of those streams." Interestingly, Eminem was not a party to the lawsuit and only learned about it after it was filed. "[We are] just as surprised as anyone else by this news," his spokesperson told The Verge. Spotify hosted the star's music for five years. With 76 million monthly listeners, he is the 12th most-streamed musician.
